  • There is quite a story behind this ring. I saw it being worn by the mother of a great friend of my daughter. Nicole (mum to Mani) kindly gave me permission to use her design and boy am I pleased she did!

The ring was made in communist East Gemany, at a time when gold was very hard to come by. So Omi Poldi (Nicole’s grand mother) had it made from her gold tooth fillings. The gemstone (which they think is aquamarine) was supplied by the jeweller who made the ring in Stralsund on the Baltic coast. Omi Poldi wore it for many years and then gave it to her daughter, who loved and wore it for a very long time, and then gave it to Nicole.

It’s a beautiful story of how meaningful pieces of jewellery can be; how we remember so many details - when and how they were made, for whom and how they came to us. They are often way more precious to us than the gold and gemstones used - they hold stories about our families and loved ones that get passed with them, down the generations.

I am delighted to be able to use this gorgeous and unusual design, made in .925 sterling silver and one micron of 18k gold vermeil. The stone is a large blue topaz 14mm by 10mm, surrounded by a triple rim of gold wire, and held in place by three claws on either side of the stone. The band is 5mm at the side of the stone and narrows to 2mm at the back. It weighs 5g.

We think it’s a complete gem!
